CDL Test Requirements

A person wishing to get the CDL permit is required to pass a written test on highway safety and a test about the different parts of a truck with a minimum of 30 questions on the test. The candidates have to answer at least 80 percent of the questions correctly to ass this test. Successful performance in the driving maneuvers will ensure a pass out in the driving sills section. The driving skill test has to be taken in a vehicle that the driver operates or expects to operate.

THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT OF 1986(CMVSA/86)

It is a law passed by the United States Congress in the year 1986. According to this law ALL the individual states have to comply with certain standards in regards to the licensing of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. Maine driver licensing standards comply with the law, requiring CMV drivers to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) when driving appropriate vehicles. A CDL license can ONLY be issued in the driver's STATE OF LEGAL RESIDENCE, and cannot have any OTHER DRIVER'S LICENSE in ANY other state.
