TOEIC TEST SECTIONS
The TOEIC tests a non native speaker’s proficiency of English language in international real life work environment. The test consists of 200 multiple choice questions that needs to be answered with the time limit of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The test is paper based where the answers have to be chosen manually by marking the choice with a pencil on a machine scannable answer sheet
The TOEIC test consists of two sections each timed separately, i.e. Each section has to be answered within a 45 minute time span.
The first section of the TOEIC test deals with Listening comprehension. Recorded statements, questions, short conversations in English are played to the person appearing for the test. These have to be listened very carefully to answer the questions that follow. This section tests a person’s ability to follow and understand spoken English. There are a total of hundred questions divided into four parts. About 20 questions base on photographs, 30 on question-response, 30 on short conversations and 20 on short talks are put forth to test the listening skill of the test taker.
The second section of the TOEIC deals with a person’s grasp of written English. There are a total of 100 questions which have to be answered within a time limit of 75 minutes. An array of materials to be read is given to the person appearing for the test and the questions are based on had been read. The Reading section is divided into 3 parts encompassing 40 incomplete sentences, 20 Error recognition and 40 Reading comprehensions.
The time that is leftover after answering the question from both the section is used to respond to questions of biographical nature and about work and educational history.
