CDL Test Admission Procedure
To Be Eligible For A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) a person must
- obtain and pass the compulsory CDL license tests that apply to him.
- Be 21 years old (18 years old if ALL of the driving is within a particular state and you do not transport hazardous materials or drive double or triple trailer rigs).
- hold a valid medical certificate in agreement with MCSR regs. 49 CFR 391.41 - 391.49.
- verify that the person does not hold a driver license from more than one state and confirm that his driver license is not currently suspended, revoked, or canceled in ANY state, nor subject to any of these actions.
- Surrender the current driver license.
- Provide proof of identification.
- Pay testing and licensing fees.
Starting May 31, 2005, new federal system necessitates that a person who is applies for a California commercial driver license with an original or renewal Hazardous Materials (HazMat) backing to undergo a security threat evaluation. The USA Patriot Act requires the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to fulfill a security threat evaluation (background records check) before the Department of Motor Vehicles issues a HazMat endorsement.
