CBEST Test Admission Procedure
The student who meets even any one of the conditions listed below will have to appear and pass the CBEST Test to obtain the teaching permit in California.
- If the individual is applying to be a day-to-day substitute
- Candidates applying for an Emergency Teaching Permit, unless he already holds a valid California teaching credential for which a baccalaureate degree is required.
- Students applying for a Pre-Internship certificates
- In case of not having taught in a school district during the 39 months prior to new employment, the CBEST may also be required as a condition of employment under Education Code Section 44830. To ascertain whether the CBEST is required, The applicant should contact the school district where he is considering employment.
- If the student is applying for admission to a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) accredited teacher preparation program, unless he already hold a valid California teaching credential for which a baccalaureate degree is required.
- Application is for admission to a CCTC accredited services credential program.
The state of Oregon also requires the CBEST certification for those who wish to take up teaching as a profession. Apart from the CBEST certification the applicant should also hold other licensure requirements, such as official academic and professional training and suitable educational experience as set forth in Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS, Chapter 342) and Oregon Rules for Licensure of Teachers, Personnel Specialists, and Administrators (OAR, Chapter 584). Under Oregon laws, a teacher must hold the suitable Oregon license before beginning service in a public school or Education Service District. In Oregon, the minimum scores are laid down by the TSPC.
It is required that the candidates applying to take the CBEST test should have at least a high school diploma, a GED, or the equivalent of it. Students who have or have been taking courses for college credit pursuant to a career in education are also eligible to take the CBEST test. Those who are uncertain about their eligibility to take the CBEST test are advised to contact the TSPC for further details.
The registering of the student through the Internet or telephone, or submitting a registration form through mail (even incase the registration form is received without the applicants signature) for the CBEST, It is understood as agreeing to abide by the Rules of Test Participation and all rules and requirements specified or referred to in the current registration bulletin and communicated to the student, orally or in writing, at each test administration for which he has registered. The student will be required to sign his answer document(s), which will contain an agreement to the Rules of Test Participation, prior to testing at the site on the day of the test. Failure to sign the answer document(s) on the day of the test would result in the test scores becoming void or worse, the student would be refrained from writing test
