ASSET Test
The ASSET test is developed and administered by the by America College Testing (ACT). More than 400 community and technical colleges in the US use the ASSET test. This test helps evaluate the students’ strengths and weaknesses to help them be placed in the right program and identify areas they need help in. Though many schools require the ASSET results to be submitted during registration, the student can also take the test after being accepted for enrollment since this is not a pass/fail exam. The American College Testing Corporation, the same company that developed the ACT test, directs the ASSET test. The question pattern is in the multiple-choice format. it is a paper and pencil exam and the students are allowed to carry calculators for the Advanced Mathematics portion. The scores are made available to the student immediately. The ASSET test is helpful to students in finding the right college program and schedule. At times it even enables them to skip some basic classes
Though the ASSET tests are primarily used by technical and 2-year colleges to place students, some 4-year and research institutions ask their students to complete one of these tests to identify help them to identify the students skill level in major subject areas to place them in proper courses matching their skill level.
ASSET has three tests of basic skills in writing, reading, and numerical reasoning, plus more advanced tests in algebra and geometry. The ASSET program also offers the Educational Planning Form, which contains additional information on the students’ educational needs and goals apart from the score sheet.
