ASSET Test Structure
There are two sections in the ASSET test. The first is the Basic Skills, and the second the Advanced Mathematics. The test is comprised of multiple-choice questions and the students receive their score results immediately. Calculators are allowed inside the exam hall. The first part that is the Basic Skills section is further subdivided into three sections:
- Reading,
- Writing
- Numerical reasoning
The total time limit for completing this section is 75 minutes with each section consisting of a 25 minutes time frame. Reading section has 36 questions and the comprehension writing section has 24 questions testing for style, grammar, punctuation, etc.; and numerical skills consists of 42 questions on basic mathematics such as decimals and fractions, and pre algebra concepts like square roots and prime numbers.
The Advanced Mathematics is divided into four 25 minute sections having 25 questions in each section. They are
- Elementary algebra
- Intermediate algebra
- College algebra
- Geometry.
Except for college algebra, the tests cover math skills acquired in high school. The table below gives a clear structure of the Basic Skills section and the Advanced Mathematics section.
